This Is Us – Is This YOU?
Do you watch the show “This Is Us”?
I’m an action kinda girl but honestly, this show is AMAZING and you must check it out! So, why would a fitness website mention a television show? Well, because one of the main characters (Kate) struggles with her weight. I actually see her as a people pleaser, she seems to want to help everyone else and is pretty good at it. The only person she seems to have difficulty helping is herself. At one point she discusses having gastric bypass surgery but it is in this episode where I truly understood her struggle. Her deep hidden pain that is bottled up inside her. In this episode she decides to go to “fat camp”….yup, I hate that term too but it is what it is and that is what they call it on the show. Her expectation of what this camp would be and what it ends up being was brilliant. Of course, she thought it was a place to work on the outside only and that all she would be doing is trying to lose weight but that wasn’t the case at all. It was such a powerful episode, they really all are, but I think it was such an “aha” moment for her character and for those watching. In the video above she hesitantly joins in on trying to pull out her emotions and “pound” out her feelings. For me, this was when I felt the “aha” moment and realized this episode hit the nail on the head about losing weight. Weight loss is so much more than someone just working out and losing weight. It’s about the journey, the struggle, it’s about the “why” and what it is inside that needs healing and change. Sometimes it’s what’s going on INSIDE that has to be worked on before you the outside can be changed.
If you don’t deal with the hurt or anger or self-doubt that is inside you won’t be able to heal. Confront your inner struggle and trust yourself to overcome it. Once you know what the problem is then you can try and fix it. Of course, it won’t be easy but at least you’ll be going in the right direction. For those who can relate to this episode what is your “why”? What is the real struggle inside you? Trust yourself and trust the process it will take to heal you.
